Almost famous

almost

twice in the last two weeks i have been introduced to someone for the first time only to have them say:

“oh, i’ve seen your flickr site. i feel like i already know you.”

that statement is obviously annoying on a few levels. other than your immediate physical appearance (unless you’re meeting a blind person), you’re supposed to get a clean slate when you meet someone for the first time. unfortunately, i have scribbled all over my slate with 6,500 photos and 6 years of weblog archives…

but what’s a girl to do? somehow turn the annoyance into flattery? get a pseudonym? find another online outlet? post less?

i know! i’ll leave the city country continent! : ))

Ha! like that’s going to help matters! Wait until you meet people on Nevis who recognise you. Flickr stars are all around, and the quiet ones (or lurkers) are looking for them in the streets!

    Wear a disguise.

Then again, that may give an even bigger clue :D

Considering it’s a social networking site where you have made many friends, you can’t be surprised when others are queued up to get to know you for reals ;)

Take it as flattery my big sis…You deserve it…and I don’t think leaving the continent will help either. People recognize talent….SUPERSTAR…(confetti…fireworks….music intro here)

Anybody who thinks they know someone simply by reading their website… has never had a website. :)

i experienced something similar last night. a couple i have met only a few times, and last saw in august, were at a dinner party i attended last night. when the male of the couple asked what i’d been up to lately i mentioned my travels to hawaii and arizona. he said “oh yes, i saw your pictures on flickr”.

(oops, submitted too soon)… i was left feeling like i had no other news to report because anything i would have to tell, he would have already seen on flickr.

as for you, a pseudonym at this point in the game is out (too late to wipe jennifer hawke off the face of the internet and start fresh) and posting less just isn’t an option, in my opinion. i’d say try to take it as flattery but i now understand your annoyance.

hopefully no one knows of you in nevis. best option is when you get to your new home, be selective with whom you share your online information.

    just please, don’t post less!
