puppies!

my hands stink like puppies and i love it.

i think i mentioned earlier about how i wanted to get involved with the animal rescue program here on Nevis. well, here i am! i have decided to foster two female pups that would otherwise end up Who Knows Where.

and by “foster”, i mean “raise with good manners while looking for a great permanent home.” i don’t think my mom wants or needs two more dogs on the farm in a couple of years. : ))

i hemmed and hawed a bunch when i heard there was a litter of 8 that were unplanned, unexpected, and basically unwanted. will i have the time? what if Maddy comes out here? what happens when i leave the island? can i get them spayed and dewormd? etc? etc? i decided to head out to the person’s house this morning to meet them and the litter and just see… how big will they be? what are the parents like? is this a good idea or am i being stupidly selfish in my need for four-legged snuggle luv?

momma’s name really clinched it for me. she’s called Maddy! short for Madison! i like getting little signs and i’m taking this one as an indication i’m headed in the right direction.

a lot of my questions are still unanswered, but i’m excited about have a few extra legs around the house next month. it’s looking less and less like my Maddy will be able to (or even should) endure the trip down here.

and maybe this is the way it was meant to be all along…

So adorable! Will you be able to part with them when it’s time for them to go to their permanent home though?

Hard not to have the extra legs around when you are used to them. You will start them off right.
As hard as it may be it may be better if your Maddy stays up north. Not sure if she could take the weather in Nevis, may not be fair for her to endure the tip and it is also it is also about time, your school time.
Enough pontificating as I am no expert.

good luck with your new bundle of love/fur! there isn’t an animal rescue place here in dominica, so i became one accidentally. people who don’t even know me, still come up to me and ask me for puppies! there has been a lot of poop, love, destruction, mourning, cuddling, fleas, and worms, but i wouldn’t trade it for anything. and in the end, i ended up with two wonderful puppies who will be eventually coming home with me to the states. :)

That is some serious cuteness you’re holding there. I’m sure they’ll be the most well-mannered puppies ever.
