How I Study for Shelf Exams

GOOD LUCK! LAST DAY OF SHELF EXAMS!  EVERY DAY IS  BLOCK DAY AND EVERY NIGHT IS A BLOCK NIGHT! MAKE US ALL PROUD AND BRING A TEAR TO MY EYE!!

(yep, Dean T again. thankfully, he’s extremely easy-going, so i hope he gets a laugh when he reads this. we’re trying to make you proud, sir!)

phew. i’m writing this in advance, but i already know i will feel relief that the micro shelf is over. done and done with that class for the rest of the semester. i’m really earning my hammock time over here, folks.

on to neuro! this is my favourite class and i have been looking forward to this day since the start of the semester. according to the NBME here is a (somewhat abbreviated) list of the things we can expect to see:

Normal processes
Embryonic development
Organ structure and function
Spinal cord
Brain stem
Brain
Sensory systems
Motor systems
Autonomic nervous systems
Peripheral nerve
Cell/tissue structure and function
Repair, regeneration, and changes associated with stage of life
Abnormal processes
Infectious, inflammatory, immunologic disorders
Traumatic/mechanical disorders
Neoplastic disorders
Metabolic/regulatory disorders
Vascular disorders
Systemic disorders
Idiopathic disorders
Congenital/metabolic disorders
Degenerative disorders
Paroxysmal disorders
Disorders of the special senses
Principles of therapeutics

the last week has sucked as i stopped pretending like i know how to juggle Real Life with School Life and spent every waking moment at this desk instead. no library. no breakfasts in bed. no picnics. just neuro and micro.

phew. did i say that already? feet don’t fail me now…

after today, i still have 3 finals to write.

Tone it down up there Brandon.

“Brain” in your list made me laugh. Shouldn’t that be an entire course on its own, not a mere bullet point on a list of things to know? Man…I don’t envy you right now! GOOD LUCK!
