When does MED 4 start?

hellooo, semester 4!

last week still felt mostly like holidays… as did the week before.

there are only 4 days* of lecture left in Block 1 of MED 4 and i’m sitting around waiting for the motivation to study to come a-knockin’ on my front door. Pathology has been a review of Histology (MED 1) so far, with a bit of Immunology (MED 3) thrown in. Pharmacology is pretty much all Physiology review (MED 2) with some new fancy pants long drug names to learn and their place in the cholinergic drug tree.

i didn’t crack a book all day yesterday. am forcing myself to try and sit through some Kaplan Path videos today — which is actually harder than it may sound because the lecturer is a total doofus, saying things like “let’s talk about cell suicide now!” with a finger gun pointed at his head and bounce in his voice and wide goofy grin on his face.

i have learned over the past three semesters that it’s extremely important to nail Block 1 down and do really well. the material is often lighter than the following blocks, but worth just as much. and starting off the term on solid footing is MUCH better than spending the next 3 months digging yourself out of a hole.

however.

that motivation to study? yah, it’s apparently taking the long way around to my front door. i would have paid extra to get it delivered FedEx if i had known it would take this long.

Brandon and i have a small wager this semester: every block exam i beat him on, he has to bring me dessert (Coconut Grove makes *great* brownies and crème brûlée) and every exam he beats me on, i have to pay for one night at The Marriott in St. Kitts. it may sound a tad uneven, but he is working on an extra class for his MBA degree from Davenport University, so we decided to compensate for his handicap.

other than that, i’ve been spending more time reading about the upcoming elections than reading about the different types of necrosis. and we all know i prefer not to follow politics because it just generally makes me angry and annoyed. : ))

*September 19th is Independence Day (25 years!) and the ONLY holiday we get off from school all year long. but don’t worry, our profs have already set up extra hours during the start of the week to make up for that lost day. *SIGH*

The wager is further than a bit uneven, but hey what can you do. I have to try and motivate myself anyway possible : P : )

I found my fourth semester one of my hardest, motivation-wise. It’s like Wednesday night, you are tired already, but know that the week is still far from over. Courage. You’ll be done sooner than you think.

Courage. That’s good advice. I need some of that now myself.

Wager is a bit uneven in that you actually win no matter what. The only down side is you have to pay if you lose.

each exam he beats you, you have to pay for a night at a hotel??? whoa…how many exams are there? Not that I lack faith in you, or anything… :)

I’m having a dreadful time with motivation as well… dunno what it is. I seriously need to get my bum in gear though, because I have my first midterm in 8 days, and I have done *maybe* 6 hours of studying for it. Not Good.

    Anyway, best of luck!!

I’d like to get in on this wager. I’m not a med student, but I do go to a North American school, so I figure that evens the playing field

    JOKES!!! I swear…JOKES!!

Seriously though…how about if i do better than both of you, you fund an all expenses paid trip for me down to nevis? Likewise, if you both do better than me, I will….well it’s a surprise!

[...] still working on that study thing. the 4am’s have returned with a vengeance. pulling out the trampoline to get in training for bouncing back. but i really can’t say it was a surprise that the first block sucked. i mean, come ON. will be taking the dean’s advice and treating every day until Brandon’s birthday as if it was a block day, and every night a block night.
