Happy Easter

Feeling particularly far away from home this weekend, so I decided to attempt my Grandma’s Paska.
Things I learned today:
1) I am not my grandmother, but I think I could be pretty close if I had her KitchenAid mixmaster.
2) I should always remember to cut her recipes in half.
3) My back no longer likes standing and mixing and kneading for an hour.
4) It’s easy to feel close to home when you spend the day being thankful for the people you love.
Happy Easter. Here’s hoping you had friends and family (and lots of chocolate!) to celebrate with.

I love the fact that you were baking bread. Considering I really do not let you into the kitchen very much it was a great thing to come home too and what great smells. I know I wish that I would have grown up with your grandmother’s cooking : )

Mmm! Paska bread!
Did you know that paska is the Finnish word for shit? Yeah, I learned that when asking my fairly conservative Finnish friend if the bread he was carrying was paska bread, “Is that paska? Paska. You know, paska? Paska bread! Paska? For Easter?” His eyes got bigger and bigger each time I said it. He told his grandma about it later and she nearly peed her pants laughing.
