36 weeks

I waddled into work on Monday morning and had two different women that I see on a daily basis tell me that my belly looks like the baby “dropped” over the weekend. I still feel feet in my right ribcage, so who knows if they’re right or not. But it’s inevitable! The day is coming closer!
Speaking of women at work, someone asked me the other day what I’ve been craving. The only thing I can’t seem to live without for the last couple of months is watermelon! Granted, I have also been eating a TON of cereal (finishing about a box a week) and between Brandon and I, we go through more milk than a dairy farm. But watermelon seems to appease my thirst and sweet tooth at the same time. If it had protein and a few more nutrients, it would be the perfect food! This photo shows a watermelon I grew in our backyard. Yum.
This week we have a milestone prenatal appointment. Almost every monthly appointment is the same: check weight, check blood pressure, check dates, pee in a cup (check for protein or glucose), measure distance between pubic symphysis and fundus, and listen to baby’s heartbeat with doppler monitor. But at 36 weeks, you actually have to strip from the waist down and get swabbed for group B streptococcus (GBS). From here on out, we visit the doctor weekly.
I’ve also started paying for yoga on a weekly instead of monthly basis because I’m no longer sure how many classes I’ll get to. It’s inevitable! The day is coming closer!
I have really loved being pregnant. I know I’ve been lucky and blessed by the fact that the biggest thing I had to complain about was a little hip pain for a couple of weeks. Big deal. The hormones have been good to me overall, even if Brandon doesn’t totally agree. ; )
But I think I am just about done with this whole pregnancy thing.
Mostly I’m done with having to wear the same clothes week in and week out. Even those extra-long, extra-tented tees from the maternity department no longer hang low enough to cover the bottom of my belly. I have two pairs of pants that I can wear to work and I can’t wear my capris because I have to don these gosh-awful-ugly compression stockings each morning. It’s summer! I want skirts and dresses and short pants! I broke down the other day and stopped at Payless Shoes on the way home from work. I splurged $24.99 on a pair of comfy black slip-ons that are a FULL size bigger than what I normally wear. The sales clerk reminded me that they have a “buy one, get one 1/2 off” special right now and I told him I just can’t bring myself to buy TWO pairs of giant ski shoes.
I’m also done with feeling so slow — both mentally and physically. Sometimes I have to take a break halfway through getting dressed in the morning! And forget about jaunting up three flights of stairs in the parking garage. Just going to the bathroom seems to take forever as I peel away layer after layer and then get myself sorted again. My least favourite event of the week occurred yesterday when my attending asked me to check proprioception on a patient. I looked at him like I had no idea what proprioception even was, let alone how to test it! Sloooow brain. Ugh.
I feel so lucky and blessed to have been able to carry this little guy around for 36 weeks. I can’t express how thankful I am of the fact that each and every doctor’s appointment is so routine and free of complications that they are downright bor-ing. How could I ask for a better pregnancy?? My mama passed along some good baby-carrying genes! Thank heaven!
At 37 weeks, they consider the baby officially “full term”… It’s inevitable! The day is coming closer!

Enjoy these last few weeks (or days)! Once my little girl was born, I actually missed being pregnant. (Who’d have thought I would miss it, with all the whining and complaining I did!) :)

Go Jen go!
PS. I meant to comment earlier about this…how come I’ve never heard about compression stockings from pregnant women before?? Sounds like a pain, necessary but a pain!
