Our First Ten Days

Sunday
Born!
Monday
Home from the hospital. Seemed to take them for-ev-er to get us checked out, but I guess it’s not really a hotel.
Tuesday
Felt pretty good after the first sleepless night. Trying to figure out how to wake the little man up long enough to eat every couple of hours. He just wants to sleep and sleep and sleep! Headed back to the hospital for a follow-up bilirubin level to monitor the mild jaundice. All is good! Liver is good!
Wednesday
Still in a daze getting used to each other. Went to see the lactation consultant. She says he’s latching on great and should gain good weight. He’s down to 6lbs 10oz and should be back to his birth weight (7lbs 8oz) within 2 weeks after birth.
Thursday
Big hailstorm complete with thunder, lightning and power outage. Usually I love storms, but this one felt extra scary. Or maybe I was just being extra protective.
Friday
First pee all over wall during changing. Later on that morning, Grandma and Grandpa arrive! We celebrate by taking baby out to his first restaurant lunch at Cattleman’s. Grandma holds him all weekend and changes every. single. diaper. It’s nice having two hands again.
Saturday
First Husker game! Slept in perfect 2 hour blocks all night! Had more round ligament pain during these days than I experienced all throughout pregnancy. Feels like things are ship-shaping back up inside me.
Sunday
My birthday! Brandon worked overnight and until 3pm, so we spent the day with Grandma and Grandpa. They took me to Babies R Us to pick out a glider rocking chair for my birthday. Had a mini meltdown, but managed to choose a glider and get out of there in one piece.
Monday
Grandma and Grandpa leave. Sad. Brandon has the day off school and work and we spend Quality Family Time together.
Tuesday
First doctor’s appointment! Weight is up 5oz (and added an inch in length). Still another 9oz to go before next Tuesday.
All in all, I think we’re adjusting pretty well to each other. I’m exhausted, but it’s that happily-tired kind of dreamy daze and not (yet?) tinged with blues-y depression.
I think it’s natural for this brand new Mother Bear to feel protective about how much information is shared about her new Little Cub online. As such, most photos and updates will be posted privately for “Friends Only” on Facebook. But you can always drop me an email if you’re curious about how we’re doing!
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

Somehow I missed saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” at ‘cha this weekend.
Asking “Was it was a good one?” sounds like asking the dumbest question in the world. :-)

Congratulations to you and Brandon!!! Creighton is such a little cutie pie! What a perfect little face! Aren’t newborns supposed to be all cone-heady and weird looking? It sounds like you’re handling the stress of new motherhood in true Jen fashion….i’m looking forward to hearing part two of your birth story. Happy birthday!!
